Billy Peterson's 70th Birthday Hang
Billy Peterson's 70th Birthday Hang - Willard (Billy) Peterson tosses out bass lines like an inventive trumpeter. Even the turn-arounds between phrases are intricate filigrees etched in silver. You’re amply rewarded if you catch even 1/3 of his notes. Catch 2/3 and you’ll consider ordering another drink, or in my case, standing up to take a pic. Any more than that and you’ll be wondering if you actually heard what you heard, but you’ll know that listening has its rewards. The musicality (time, pitch, dynamics, expression, etc.) of the Peterson Family is a given whether comping, soloing, or vocalizing. In music, like relationships, there is something called authenticity. The warm and supportive P Fam vibe extends to the audience and creates an experience so much greater than the mere sum of its parts. Given the combination of the musicality and genuineness, you feel something is right, and for a moment the world is back in balance. With voices of this much authenticity, you feel safe to listen a little closer. Apologies for the few pics, I was ocupado.
